For the Virtual Environments Module we were given a group project to do. I was put in the red group with four other classmates. This week our task was to meet up with the other members of our group to discuss the project brief. This posed a few difficulties as I only knew the other members in my group through second life, I didn’t even know their real names. Considering the lack of information I had about them, my only choice to contact them was through second life. I figured out how to instant message two of teammates as I had befriended them in the first class. As I was doing this I noticed that I had not befriended Walaa96 or Avaflanagan1234. I must have missed them by accident. This worried me because since they were not on my friends list it meant that I couldn’t instant message them, meaning I couldn’t contact them at all. I just hoped that maybe one of the other teammates would be able to pass on the message and contact them so that we could all arrange a time to meet up in second life. I wasn’t even sure if the group members I had instant messaged would even see the message I sent them since they were offline at the time. After a few days I had recieved no replys to any of my messages, I assumed that they must not have seen the messages.

Thankfully Iamsquidward sent me an an instant message on second life on Monday and gave me her email. After this we were able to email eachother and Iamsquidward set up a groupchat. Iamsquidward was able to track down Walaa96 and Avaflanagan and I found out who Warwick was. We added all the other members of the group so that we could communicate easily outside of second life. I was relieved that we all were able to get in contact in the end. We arranged to meetup in secondlife at 7pm on Wednesday. Iamsquidward, Avaflanagan1234, Walaa96 and I all met in the classroom on Wednesday evening. I was able to add Walaa and Ava as friends. Unfortunately Warwick didn’t show up.

We chatted for a while to get to know eachother a bit, we discussed the module and the current situation with Covid-19. We also shortly discussed the project brief but didn’t go too far into detail yet as the introduction to the project was set to be discussed in the next virtual enironments class where it would be explained more thoroughly. I think that it’s important to get to know the members of the group so that we can build a strong foundation for the team to allow us work well together and communicate effectively. As stated in Madonna, S. (2017, October 27). Team Operations Tips, the first step to a successful team is forming good relationships. It was nice to be able to meet and get to know the other members of the group. Everyone seemed friendly and enthusiastic about the project which was a good sign. Hopefully we will work well as a group together.
Until next week,
Monald.
